Feng Shui Tips for Moving into your Newly Constructed Home

Moving into a newly constructed Home can be an exciting time in life.  You’re taking possession of a brand new Home and you have an unparalleled opportunity to make that Home your own.  From the earliest design phases to your final move in date, there are some Feng Shui basics for your Home that can help you cultivate powerful, positive energy that ultimately brings you and your family peace and prosperity.  Understanding Feng Shui and applying some simple tips can ensure that your Home is not just cozy and comfortable but also promotes free-flowing and energizing Chi.  Let’s take a closer look at Feng Shui to move into a new Home.

Whether you are considering exterior paint colours, landscaping, or other design elements, a Feng Shui Home study can be a great place to start.  As a Classical Feng Shui Consultant, I can provide a full-scale review of your Home (inside and out) to help you make decisions that invite healing energy into your Home while preventing heavy energy from entering.  Some of the key principles of house moving Feng Shui can be easily applied when you have built a new Home because you have total control over your Home’s construction and design.  So with that in mind, it is important to consider every detail of construction including landscaping, yard elements, and entryway design.

Easy Feng Shui Landscaping Tips

Plants are an important tool in Feng Shui, so you should not be surprised to learn that landscaping can have a big impact on your new Home Feng Shui.  When choosing plants for your yard, I always recommend that you plant small shrubs around your walkway.  Be mindful of the “power of 2s” and avoid having a single overwhelming plant or a single-potted plant at your entrance.  Create balance and promote Chi flow by pairing plants.  Also, a good Feng Shui tip is to plant shrubs that are green year round but be careful not to let them get overgrown and block your entryway or walkway.

Feng Shui Entrance Tips

According to Feng Shui Home design principles, you should carefully consider your walkway and entryway to your Home.  For example, it is not suggested to create a straight line to your front door; instead, Feng Shui Home Construction experts recommend a meandering walkway that is clear of clutter or obstacles.  Your front door should be easily visible from the street; and according to Feng Shui practice, it is also important that your house numbers are visible so you can easily invite positive energy into your Home to allow it to circulate.  Outside lighting is also important and should be balanced so that your entry is clearly illuminated, house numbers are visible, and energy moves easily.

Exterior Home Feng Shui Elements

There are also Feng Shui Home ideas that can guide you when making decisions about the exterior element of your Home. I always recommend that homeowners consult with their Feng Shui expert to determine the ideal colour for their Home or front door. Depending on the direction your house is facing and that of the back of your house, you should choose your exterior element wisely. Grey or white colour represent metal, but there are also colours that reflect the other Feng Shui elements: fire, water, and wood. As an example, if your Feng Shui Consultant recommends the water element then outdoor features of the back, front, and sides of your house should incorporate blue and black colours – this may include colours of the lawn furniture, planters or the colour of the outdoor decor.

Indoor Feng Shui Tips

Finally, there are many ways Feng Shui can help inside your Home as well. In previous blogs, you may have learned that Feng Shui Experts recommend avoiding plants with sharp edges, but these recommendations include décor elements as well. For example, avoid tables and other furniture that have sharp corners as these may pierce the energy in your Home. Use mats in bathrooms, front entrances, and kitchens, but choose mats that represent Feng Shui grounding colours such as off-white, beige, light brown, or clay. When choosing an outdoor mat, avoid made with coir – a hay-like fibre that breaks down over time and can also fracture the qi entering your Home.

How To Set Up Feng Shui-Friendly Office for Success

Mindful Office Feng Shui can be a powerful tool for boosting, growing or invigorating your Career or Business. Whether you are considering Feng Shui for the Office at Home or you want to incorporate Feng Shui in your Business, there are simple Feng Shui practices that can help you reach new levels of wealth, growth, and success. You can easily apply many of these Office Feng Shui tips in your own space while also encouraging your employees to do the same. I encourage you to follow these tips to allow Chi to flow freely and attract new opportunities in your work.

Command Position

The command position is an important principle of Feng Shui. In my work, I often talk to my clients about the command position as it can be applied in any space of your Home or Office. We may talk about the command position of furniture in your bedroom or living room and in your Office, the command position relates to the position of your desk.

When positioning your desk, you want your back to a wall to provide support and you do not want to face a wall. Think of the common expressions “I’ve got your back” or “you’re hitting your head against a wall.” You should be able to see the door without being direct across from it. If you have a window, it should ideally be to your left or right. This command position in Office Feng Shui puts you in a position of control where you can see what is coming and allows energy to flow freely.

Feng Shui Office Desk

In my consultations about Feng Shui in the Office, I encourage my clients to think about the type of desk they use and how their desk is organized. You should choose a solid desk that is made from wood to create stability in your work and career. Avoid glass desks as glass represents fragile, broken energy.

You should keep your desk free of clutter – I recommend organizing and clearing drawers at least every few months.  Only keep active files on your desk so that the energy is current and moving in the right direction.  A well-organized desk with minimal clutter creates space for opportunities and promotes growth and prosperity.

Feng Shui Devices

Sometimes my clients are surprised that Feng Shui principles apply to your computer or device as well. As you want to remove clutter from your desk, you also want to remove clutter from your devices. Delete any files or phone numbers that you no longer need. Maintain your email inbox and files so they are current and useful. Ample free space on your computer and devices is important to allow the universe to deliver new opportunities and for Chi to flow freely.  I always start my devices at least daily for a few minutes to invite fresh Chi – just as you would open your windows to allow stale Chi to escape, starting your devices prevents Chi from being trapped.

Your device or desktop screens are a great place to use affirmations to remind you of your current intentions and to inspire growth and prosperity. I love to turn on my computer to see beautiful affirmations, but it’s also important to keep them current. You can even use affirmations as your passwords for inspiration and to welcome clear, positive energies. Affirmations in your passwords and home screens are an easy and effective method to remind your higher self of your true intentions.

Other Office Feng Shui Tips

There are many other ways you can apply Feng Shui principles in your Office or the Home Office.

  • Place a Crystal at or close to your desk. Citrine is a very powerful Crystal to enhance Career properties while Clear Quartz aids in Manifesting your desires.
  • Fresh live plants invite live, healthy energy into your Office.
  • Like you would regularly clean your windows, and keep your device screens clean to invite prosperity and prospective opportunities into your career.
  • Avoid office clutter by removing old equipment and furniture (desks, scanners, printers) that are not serving you to allow free-flowing Chi.
  • Take a minimalist approach in your Office and allow the Universe to present you with new ideas, opportunities, and paths to success.

8 Tips to Improve Feng Shui in your Home

Simple, Feng Shui principles can have a powerful influence on your Home. Taking a mainstream, pop-culture perspective, Feng Shui Home ideas seem like basic, common-sense practices focused on decluttering your Home and getting things more organized. And while these practices are certainly connected to the traditional practice of Feng Shui, there’s so much more to it and to unlocking abundance, health, and unparalleled joy in your life. To that end, I bring you 8 tips for a Feng Shui-friendly Home.

A Feng Shui Entryway

The entry to your Home dictates how energy flows into your Home and subsequently your life. Entryway Feng Shui guides you to carefully consider your front door so you can ensure good Feng Shui in your Home. Remove clutter and keep your entry clear of debris and garbage. Place a welcoming mat at your front door and make sure that you shake it out regularly. Create an inviting and open space that freely allows good energy to enter your Home.

Feng Shui Windows

Clean your windows regularly and open your blinds every morning to ensure that adequate sunlight enters your Home for good Feng Shui. Sunlight brings natural and invigorating energy while also enhancing the vibrancy of colours and objects in your Home. Open your windows too and allow fresh air to revive the energy.

Lighting and Feng Shui

Problem areas in your Home can be remedied with appropriate Feng Shui lighting ideas. Light is fundamental to balanced chi in your Home; and while natural light is always preferred, it is not always available. Lamps are an easy Feng Shui light fixture that can introduce more light into dark rooms and spaces which is especially important in rooms where you participate in more activities. Also, make sure to have a well-lit entryway to your Home and even to the important rooms in your Home. For example, for improved Home Office Feng Shui, you can try wall sconces at the entry on either side of your office door.

Feng Shui Plants

Plants represent life and energy as they allow us to connect to nature from the comfort of our Home. Plants bring good Feng Shui because they refresh energy and bring vitality to any space. Consider plants that can purify the air such as Acreca Palm or Boston Firm.  There are also Feng Shui plants that promote wealth and abundance such as Jade or Bonsai Trees. Always avoid spiky plants such as the cactus that bring sharp energy that can actually drain energy from your Home and your body.

Command Position

A fundamental principle of Feng Shui is the command position. Command position determines how you position yourself in your life and the basic principles of command position are applied to your bed, desk, and stove. In Feng Shui, each of these pieces of furniture represents the person and components of their life. You are the bed. Your career is the desk. And the stove represents abundance. When considering Feng Shui in your Home, position your bed, desk, and stove so that you can see the door without being direct across from it. In other words, position these pieces of furniture diagonal to the door to attain the command position so that you can maintain command in your life.

Feng Shui Crystals

My final tip for a Feng Shui-friendly Home is to incorporate Crystals into your space. Feng Shui Crystal’s placement can be important. For example, hanging Feng Shui Crystals in windows can attract and distribute chi in a room while also preventing good energy from escaping a room. Depending on your goal, there are many appropriate Feng Shui bedroom Crystals. For example, Rose Quartz or Amazonite on your bedside table can help you reconnect with self-acceptance and healing. Feng Shui Crystals can be used anywhere in the Home; for example, Black Tourmaline with Mica kept outside your front door can also prevent negative energy from entering and Amethyst can be placed in your Meditation area to maintain calmer and grounding vibes.

Decorating with Feng Shui

Uplifting and inspiring artwork is a Feng Shui energy enhancer. When you are decorating with Feng Shui in mind, you should also choose art that represents the 5 Feng Shui elements.

  • The Wood Element is reflected in artwork with trees, forests, or driftwood.  You can choose paintings or wall art made from wooden materials.
  • The Element of Water can be represented in paintings of rivers, waterfalls, the ocean, or lakes.
  • The Fire Element may be seen in artwork with cozy scenes by a fireplace or candlelight.
  • The Element of Earth is seen in landscape paintings with mountains or plants.
  • The Element of Metal is easily represented in artwork made from metal materials including silver, bronze, or copper.
  • Remove Obstacles

Various obstacles can impede the flow of chi in your Home. Implementing Feng Shui in your Home often involves some degree of decluttering. But make no mistake – one of the main purposes of decluttering is to remove obstacles that may block energy in your Home. This is particularly true at your front door where energy enters your Home. Even furniture such as tall bookcases, dressers, or chests should be arranged carefully so they are offset from your usual position rather than directly across or opposite you.

Manifesting with Classical Feng Shui

Feng Shui is an ancient philosophy that allows practitioners to achieve more balance and harmony in life by inviting positive Chi (or energy) into their homes and lives and by allowing that energy to flow freely. According to Feng Shui basics, by arranging items in your home and by using Feng Shui Elements, you can harness Chi to create harmony in your life. But many newcomers to the practice are also aware that Manifesting with Classical Feng Shui can help you harness the laws of attraction to bring positive or favourable changes to your life.

With that in mind, Manifesting with Feng Shui involves more than simply wishing or hoping for good fortune. If you want to use Feng Shui to attract marriage, strengthen your current relationship or if you’ve wondered how to attract money using Feng Shui, it is important to understand that there are very specific approaches that come from within the practice but also personal actions matter too. Let’s take a closer look…

The 33% Rule

Before we talk specifically about Manifesting with Feng Shui, I want to elaborate on the 33% rule. Along with most Feng Shui Experts, I believe that most outcomes in life are guided by the 33% rule. According to this rule, most of what happens in life is determined equally by 3 factors:

  1. Destiny (sometimes known as Heaven Luck) – is determined before you are born
  2. Effort (Human Luck) – your actions, choices, and decisions
  3. Tools (Earth Luck) – Your Personal Feng Shui Calculations.

When we talk about our destiny, we are talking about personal traits that you can’t control. Your birth date, Astrology, Numerology, and other innate factors will influence your Manifestations. In addition, your effort including the work that you put into achieving your goals or improving your quality of life is important for Manifestation. And finally, tools such as Feng Shui, Meditation, and lifelong learning represent the final 33% that will guide your life outcomes.  When each of these pieces is working together, we are more capable of Manifesting our dreams.

As a Feng Shui Practitioner, I work with my clients to understand their unique personalities, situation, and circumstances so that we can use what we know about the 33% rule to effectively Manifest their goals and ultimately to achieve their purpose.

Manifest with Intention

Next, Manifestation using Feng Shui requires that you act with purpose but also that you understand Feng Shui Element Placement. There are specific Feng Shui tools and cures that can help you Manifest certain desires but if those aren’t placed properly, you won’t get your desired results. For example, you need to know not only which tools and cures can elevate the Positive Energy in the space, but also why we are using those tools for Feng Shui and placing them with Intention and faith.  Intention Setting is one of the critical components of Manifestation.

Further, I help my clients understand that Feng Shui element placement will depend on the area in your life where you want to Manifest particular outcomes.  The relationship area in your home is in the Southwest, the career area is in the North, the prosperity area is in the Southeast, and the grounding/meditation area is in the Northeast, just to name a few. This means if you want to use Feng Shui to attract love and money, you must apply Feng Shui tools in the relationship and prosperity areas of your home.

It is common in popular culture today to hear celebrities talk about Manifesting your vision – imagine a goal or outcome, visualize it, and it will come true.  When Manifesting with Classical Feng Shui, it is important to have a vision (or purpose), but you must also work with your inner traits and your surrounding environment to invite positive chi, create balance, and attract your goals. This is why my Manifesting coaching has combined all 3 modalities… the power of accurate placement using Classical Feng Shui calculations, Energy Clearing so the Energy in our spaces can fully support us in our goals and Manifesting Rituals which include appropriate Affirmations, Intention Setting, Moon Phases and Crystals.

8 Feng Shui Home Decorating Mistakes to Avoid

Feng Shui Home design principles can help you cultivate energy that promotes health, happiness, wealth, and success. Still, Feng Shui decorating requires a deeper understanding of the principles and goals of this ancient practice. If you’re just getting started with Feng Shui in the home, there are many common Feng Shui Home decorating mistakes that you can avoid. Here are 8 common design errors to avoid when bringing the world of Feng Shui to your home.

1. Sharp Plants

There are many good Feng Shui plants that can boost positive energy, but sharp, thorny, spikey, or pointy plants can pierce the energy in your home. Plants with soft or rounded leaves and foliage invite calmer energy into the home.

2. Dry flowers or dead plants

Feng Shui and Plants go hand-in hand. Fresh flowers and vibrant, green plants represent powerful life energy – when you learn about Feng Shui rules, you’re sure to learn of the importance of fresh plants.  On the other hand, dead or dying plants and even dried flowers represent dead energy and it’s best to avoid them in your home.

3. Mirrors

Mirrors and Feng Shui also have an important relationship that may be good or bad for your home based on their placement.  Mirrors in the dining room can amplify your family’s positive energy during meals.  However, you should never hang mirrors directly opposite entry doors to your home as this will reflect good energy out of the home.  Feng shui mirror placement is key to cultivating and maintaining good energy in the home.

4. Bathroom Feng Shui

There are a few Feng Shui rules that you should keep in mind for your bathroom. For example, keep the toilet seat down and the bathroom door closed to prevent energy from escaping through the toilet and drains.  Next, avoid decorating with blue colours or hues. The bathroom represents an overabundance of water energy which is amplified when using blue colours in the bathroom.

5. Feng Shui Bedroom Elements

Just as in the bathroom, there are some simple Feng Shui rules to follow in the bedroom. It is common nowadays for people to have TVs and computers in their bedroom. Unfortunately, these items represent harsh energy in a space that is meant to foster peace and relaxation. Always avoid TVs and computers in your bedroom.

6. Exercise Equipment

Speaking of bedrooms, you should avoid exercise equipment in the bedroom as exercise represents strenuous energy that opposes restfulness.  In an ideal world, you can create a Feng Shui exercise room that is dedicated to working out.

7. Open Door Policy

Feng Shui entryways are free of clutter and obstructions.  Never hang items behind your door or block the movement of doors to promote good entryway Feng Shui.  Doors that fully open are doors to opportunity and we never want to limit opportunities coming into your home. More tips about How to Invite Good Energy into your Home with Front Door Feng Shui.

8. Cracked Glass, Cracked Energy

Cracked glasses, dishes, mirrors, or windows represent cracks in your relationships.  Always remove or replace cracked pieces to promote Feng Shui health.

As you can see, there are many factors to consider when decorating with Feng Shui and I hope these tips have given you some ideas for a better Home Feng Shui.  And remember, working with a Feng Shui Consultant can help you decorate your home in a way that is aesthetically pleasing to the eye, and promotes and maintains positive energy while clearing negative energy.
